Following a 3 month cycle trip around both islands and falling in love with the country and its people, I moved to New Zealand in late 1999 from England. I was fortunate to arrive with the benefit of immediate Permanent Resident status, largely on the basis of a B.A. (Hons) Business Studies from the University of Brighton in East Sussex.Although I majored in Finance, I was quickly drawn to the world of sales and have pursued this avenue in my career ever since. Having said that, my understanding of Finance matters has helped me greatly, especially when dealing with clients at the C level. My sales career can be split into two sections:Firstly as a Business Development Manager – hunting for new sales. My time at Zeald was almost exclusively as a ‘commission only’ salesman and I thrived on the challenge of controlling my own destiny. The commission structure was heavily weighted in favour of self generated leads which encouraged me to actively involve myself in cold calling and networking, and the skills learnt here have served me well ever since.Since joining ELMO, I moved into Account Management (more recently as an Account Director looking after a small team), responsible for growing the business in New Zealand. Although still very much sales related, this role has involved building long-term, positive business relationships with clients, much of which comes down to helping them solve their problems. The skills learnt along the way in new business development and networking have proved invaluable here.I love what I do and get a huge sense of achievement in helping clients grow their businesses as I help the companies that I work for also grow.
