Coordinate North American Millers’ Association (NAMA) activities in the Eastern and Central Africa region including Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Malawi, Sudan, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Djibouti. Educate and inform key stakeholders in the humanitarian value chain on the nutritional, safety of biotech components, handling and packaging of food aid products produced by NAMA members. Provide technical assistance on food safety to targeted stakeholders in the humanitarian value chain including USAID and UN-WFP and other International NGOs on food aid products distributed in the region.

Coordinate Michigan State University Global Food Safety Symposium to be held 21-24 July, 2024. Design and conduct research on the impact of WorldTAP International Food Safety Short Course which has been offered at MSU since 1999. Provided leadership and facilitated project development and project administration processes to support research activities at IITA. Actively contributed to resource mobilization activities by coordinating proposal development processes including identifying funding opportunities and sharing with scientists, reviewing and submitting proposals, and analyzing and documenting funding pipeline. Coordinated a portfolio of over 200 projects annually and grant management processes at IITA, and oversaw the improvement and automation of 20 of these processes including the development and publication of standard operating procedures manual for the Project Development and Administration activities at IITA, to ensure efficient compliance with donor requirements and execution of projects and delivery of results. Oversaw the submission of 485 proposals from 2017 to 2019 translating to an accumulative 34% success rate among other achievements. Supervised a team of 12 professionals and interacted with and supported over 200 internationally recruited scientists and staff at IITA as well as interfacing administratively with 150 donors and 450 partners on average annually on behalf of the institution.

Provided program management leadership for Bio-Innovate Program, a Sida funded $ 12 Million program that supports research and innovation activities in agricultural and environmental sectors as well as innovation policy analysis in eastern Africa - Burundi, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania and Uganda. • Managed a portfolio of 9 consortia projects involving 57 implementing partners and over 400 individuals directly involved in the projects, drawn from local and international research organizations, private sector, NGOs, government and regulatory bodies, and other market players;• Successfully pilot-testing of ten technologies in partnership with end-users including smallholder famers and agro-processors. Five of these technologies are already in the hands of farmers and agro-processors at pilot-scale and have been recommended for scale-up and commercialisation;• 38 Masters and 7 PhD students trained and 50 peer reviewed articles in international journals published; • Two policy papers on uptake of bio-pesticides and management of industrial effluent technologies as well as a flagship publication on fostering a bio-economy in eastern Africa published;• Developed systems for continuous monitoring of project implementation and steered mid-term reviews and final evaluation of projects and program; • Integrated results-based management approach in the execution of program and project activities; • Managed multi-stakeholder and multi-disciplinary academia-private sector partnerships leading to development of 10 technologies in agriculture and environmental stewardship;• Supported resource mobilization processes leading to the commitment of funding for phase II by Sida.• Steered business development processes in partnership with consultants in developing commercialization strategy for the most promising bio-innovation in phase I as well as strategy for business incubation processes for phase II.• Mentored staff.

Food Safety lead at the African Biosafety Network of Expertise (ABNE) Program – African Union - NEPAD Agency - a continent-wide Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation funded Biosafety Program with a focus on food safety - was established in 2010 to support African governments in building functional biosafety systems that will ensure the responsible and safe development, adoption and utilization of genetically modified organisms (GMOs).Successfully set up a food safety portfolio under the ABNE program of the African Union• Trained over 500 regulators, scientists, government officials from across the continent on agricultural biotechnology regulatory processes with a focus on food safety• Developed and implemented biosafety capacity building strategy for Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania contributing to the eventual passage of the biosafety law and regulations in Kenya and strengthened evidence-based regulatory systems in Burkina Faso, Ghana, Nigeria, Uganda and Mozambique.• Identified human resource gaps in national biosafety systems in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania and developed appropriate human capacity building programs including biosafety training workshops, short courses, study-tours and internships for public sector officials• Developed a manual for African regulators on assessing the safety of foods derived from GMOs• Published five peer reviewed technical biosafety articles for the AU-NEPAD ABNE• Reviewed and advised on biosafety regulations and guidelines for Kenya and Uganda leading to the gazettement in the case of Kenya in 2011• Authored and disseminated a book chapter on biosafety in Africa, three policy briefs and three newsletters, developed web content, communicating biosafety to regulators and policy makers in Africa on biotechnology regulation in Africa
