About Allan Zhou

As a University of Toronto Engineering Science student (Class of 2027) specializing in Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE), I am passionate about my growth as an engineer and gaining versatile skills in various engineering fields, particularly in Electrical and Computer Engineering. As a second-year student pursuing industry and research opportunities, I am currently on the University of Toronto's Formula Electric Racing Team (UTFR) as the Driverless Firmware Lead and an Electrical Engineer. On the team, I apply my skills in writing object-oriented C++ firmware in ROS and Arduino environments, power electronics (PCB) design for low and high-voltage systems, and automotive harness manufacturing to design critical parts of our electrical and driverless vehicle systems. As a Research Intern with the Safety, Equity, and Design (SED) Lab, I applied my hardware and firmware design skills to a cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) device. This device was tested by over 30 participants, showing promise in improving compression rate and depth accuracy. In addition, I leveraged my Python scripting abilities to efficiently execute data acquisition, visualization, and analytics on the device and perform data scraping for other research projects. Furthermore, in previous software engineering roles, I have developed a wide range of skills for front-end development and data science. Outside of engineering, I have demonstrated my core values of leadership, teamwork, and community through my roles as a lifeguard and swim instructor.
