At United Robots, a pioneering start-up within AI in Journalism (Robot Journalism) in Sweden, I conducted API testing, worked with Postman, and performed data cleaning (JSON files) in Python (Requests, Pandas, NumPy). I wrote Python scripts that fetched the relevant data from API calls, cleaned the data, completed the necessary data calculations and created automated news mock-ups about housing prices in Sweden using data from Svensk Mäklarstatistik.

As a Google fellow, I worked with research and data analysis for editorial and data analytics teams. I analyzed Police annual reports and gathered, cleaned, and organized the open data available. I explored the trends of police authorities’ spending. I transformed PDF reports (with Adobe Creative Suite), 150-200 pages each, into spreadsheets (Excel and Google Sheets), cleaned the data, organized them into comprehensive tables with timelines, and prepared visualizations/charts (Excel) and a final report that shows the most important trends of the Swedish Police structure, work and spending.I got an introduction to Google BigQuery, Dashboards, Google Data Studio, and Google Analytics.

My PhD project conceptualizes data journalism as a separate journalistic subfield. The overall research question of the project is "What are the implications of data journalism to democratic development?" I am focusing on the journalistic output that has been published. "SVT Pejl" has been selected for analysis as one of Sweden's first dedicated data journalism newsrooms.I discuss the possible effects of data journalism on democracy identified through the analysis of journalistic content and journalistic roles.
