I have more than 25 years of accounting and finance experience working in for-profit and non-profit businesses. Currently, and for the past eighteen years, I have been the CFO for Thanksgiving Point Institute with experience in three particular industries: non-profit, hospitality and museums. My main responsibilities include supervising the accounting, information technology and human resource functions. I am also involved in strategic planning, cash management, financial analysis, budgeting, and operational accounting issues including accounting for grants, sponsorships and donations to our 501(c)(3) public charity. My experience and educational training have given me valuable insight and knowledge of business issues in our organization. This knowledge allows me to link decision making with business and accounting processes.I have also been involved in accounting for two large capital campaigns to build a new Butterfly Biosphere and Museum of Natural Curiosity. All of our guests love the new Butterfly Biosphere. It is our newest addition to the Thanksgiving Point property. We have begun construction on a new upgrade to our farm which will be known as Curiosity Farms. Growth in sales from 2005 to 2023 went from $10MM to over $40MM. Supervise the annual audit by our outside audit firm. Work with our tax accountants in preparation of our annual Form 990 and 990T. Supervise the accounting, IT, and HR teams. Attend annually the AICPA Not-For-Profit conference online as well as, other state UACPA conferences in keeping my continued professional education current for my CPA license. Present financial information periodically to our management team (60+ team members). Conduct financial reviews with management team members to review financial results compared to budget and last year including YTD results. Also, participate in KPI/Strategic Planning reviews with management team members on a quarterly basis. Strategic business partner with our CEO, senior, and overall management teams. Account for grants, sponsorships, annual golf event, large events (Tulip Festival, Dinosaur Island, Quilt Show and Luminaria), and donations from individuals as well as foundations. Accounting for construction and capital campaign for two large campaigns in the last 7 years (Museum of Natural Curiosity) and (Butterfly Biosphere). Each campaign was $22MM or more. Involved with a team working on upgrading our Farm Country experience to be known as Curiosity Farms. Construction began in late 2022. Responsible for risk management, 401k program, and review of our management contracts. I supervise the HR team through growth from 450 employees in 2019 to over 750 employees in 2023. I supervise the IT team that has helped to grow our IT infrastructure, software, and security to meet the demands of the increased staff.
