Over the past decade have provided specialist pavement design services from conventional through to heavy duty to a wide variety of industry clients - from contractors to consultants to TLAs. Working as part of the Hiways team provides on-going exposure to the practical implementation of pavement design. I keep a close eye on what’s happening on-site, tracking outcomes and making any required design adjustments throughout the construction process. This firsthand insight into the constructability of pavement design is hard to duplicate. During design development I look for interaction to provide robust solutions which maximise project outcomes. I maintain a thorough understanding of all aspects of foam bitumen stabilising and have worked on a number of projects where alternative pavement designs using foamed bitumen have proven highly successful. I am an active member of the Roading New Zealand Pavement Committee – charged with developing and facilitating best practice in pavement design and construction – and am familiar with the latest developments in pavement design, including specification and software changes. I am also currently chairing the New Zealand National Pavements Technical Group which is a cross-sector group formed to identify, develop, document, maintain, and facilitate best practice for road pavement design, materials and construction activities in New Zealand Show less

Initially a geotechnical Engineer working on foundation design and slope stability with a particular interest in soil - structure interface. After four years of this - the highlight being the Alpurt Motorway Extension foundation design for 7 x bridges and a variety of retaining walls and culverts I took an interest in pavement design and with increasing involvement in all facets from conventional roading to heavy duty pavements and airport hardstands.
