- Serve as State Service Organization Representative Liaison...Provide advice/assistance/guidance to thirteen Pennsylvania counties, to include one PA State Veteran’s Home.- Provide advice/assistance/guidance to veterans/beneficiaries through outreach/intake/counseling services for all available benefits/services/programs for which they may be eligible IAW all applicable Federal/State/County law. - Navigate/support veterans throughout all stages of benefit claims processes.- Assist veterans in claims development process to obtain evidence required to support successful claim for veteran's benefits.- Conduct claimant interviews to develop claims/assist claimants with submitting fully developed claims for benefits.- Review all decisions made by U.S. Dept of Veteran Affairs (USDVA) to ensure veteran and/or beneficiary achieved maximum benefit attainment under current law. - Review claims denial decisions rendered by the USDVA prior to the appeals process.- Prepare appeal cases for claimants resulting from unfavorable decisions by USDVA. - Prepare claimants for the appeal hearing by reviewing evidence relevant to case and appeals policy and procedures. - Represent claimants to the Board of Veteran Appeals.- Support regional Veterans Court by attending court sessions to provide advocacy to Veterans involved in legal system and to provide expert advice to judge and court administrators regarding benefit/service eligibility for veteran defendants.- Participate in the establishment of contacts with PA's returning service members from operational theaters and active duty service through the world. - Speak before community groups and organizations to explain veterans programs and benefits.- Prepare replies to inquires received from members of state legislature/members of congress/veteran organization officials/Department Headquarters or county/state/federal officials concerning their veteran constituents.

- Assist veterans who are filing original claims and other than original claims for compensation and/or pension with VA and complete the required forms on behalf of the claimant- Assist veterans in reopening claims for service-connected disabilities and complete the required VA forms- Offer research and advise to veterans who wish to handle their own Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) claim- Answer and research telephone inquiries regarding medical, death and burial, and other miscellaneous benefits - Follow up on status of claims filed by veterans with the VA Regional Office- File Notice of Disagreement with the VA Regional Office if a veteran believes that the decision made by the VA was incorrect- Review statements of the case from the VA regarding denials of claim and assist veterans with the preparation of responses- Assist veterans or surviving spouses in the preparation of appeals for denial of claims and file the appeals with the local VA Regional Office for forwarding to the Board of Veterans Appeals in Washington, D.C.
