I have been an active participant in the innovation community for most of my professional life. In the Fall of 2014 I moved over to the investment side of the community having been an entrepreneur and a curator of the infrastructure that supports the creation, funding and growth of startup ventures. Currently I am an Executive Advisor with WISC Partners, a strategic operating capital fund focused on tech-enabled WI companies. I have been a part of the Madison startup scene since 1983. For thirteen years I was at University of Wisconsin-Madison as a coach to faculty, students and staff helping them explore their inner entrepreneur – often working with them as they launch their venture. Essentially I filled roles ranging from counselor, to therapist, to broker and to cheerleader. I have been involved as either a founder or a significant enabler with many of the mainstays that comprise the Madison innovation infrastructure. While coaching individual entrepreneurs I also worked to build the local networks that help power any entrepreneurial community. Many of Madison’s signature startup-focused events and activities are outcomes of various projects I initiated. Prior to joining the UW, I was involved with three life science start-ups here in Madison – two of which I founded, all sold to leaders in their respective fields.
