My core responsibility at Linked Group Services is to accurately maintain all financial and non-financial data for the effective management of the business. This involves all accounting duties as well as policies, procedures and compliance with relevant legislation. I am also responsible for implementation of ISO standards and the maintenance and auditing of the IMS. This position enables me to demonstrate my business administrative experience and competence for an organisation that is extremely progressive and innovative

This role was initially focused on overall office management, however as the group experienced very rapid growth, my focus shifted to concentrate on AR and project administration. This opportunity enabled me to develop skills in construction invoicing while creating detailed spreadsheets for collation of field data. I was also responsible for BMA invoicing via the Service Claim Entry website and continued to develop my accounting skills overall.

My role at DGH was predominantly focused on accounting and human resources, and from July 2009 I was also given the opportunity to carry out the Financial Controller duties. It was in this position that I first undertook training to become a Rehabilitation and Return to Work Coordinator and learnt how to manage Work Cover claims. The five years I spent at DGH enabled me to fully expand my knowledge base and skill set further than previous office management positions, and was a great learning curve in my career.

Lowes was also a very customer-focused working experience, although my role still covered the accounting functions. I was able to learn more about promotion, KPI’s and meeting set budgets – as well as how to deal with a high volume of turnover.

I expanded my accounting knowledge considerably during this role, incorporating BAS, end of month functions such as reconciliation, PAYG and superannuation. I was also involved in front counter sales, which included quoting and scheduling jobs for tradesmen. I was also responsible for stock control and was able to further hone my customer service skills in a different environment.

I learnt about retail store management while at Dimmey’s, and this gave me a strong insight into customer service and the importance of being client-focused. I continued to do some accounting work as part of this role, as well as staff rosters and stock control.

While at Allens Services (formerly Evanbank Plant Hire), my then husband and I successfully set up and ran the Northern Territory branch of the company. I was responsible for processing payroll, compiling P&L reports and invoicing debtors and creditors. I was also responsible for the general management of the office and participated in client liaisons and sourcing new business.
