Summer internship at the UH's Harold L Lyon Arboretum working in the seed conservation laboratory and micropropagation plant tissue culture laboratory. Working to ensure the survival of some of the world's rarest and most critically endangered plants.

· Investigate the phylogenetic history and evolutionary fitness of the dengue virus using RNA/DNA manipulations, PCR, cloning, flow cytometry, cell culture, and florescent microscopy. · Work closely with senior researchers in the lab and support them with routine molecular work and with lab maintenance tasks.

· Conducted mammalian cell culture, PCR, DNA/RNA extractions, cloning and isolation of HIV-1 virus from patient samples. · Worked closely with the senior researchers in the lab and supported them with routine molecular work and with lab maintenance tasks. · Trained to work with viruses in Bio-Safety Level 2 and 3 laboratories. · Assisted in preparation of two manuscripts (see Academic Papers below).
