Hired by AWS Kumo as an SDE3, but initially executed a hybrid SDM/PM role for one of Kumo’s support case-management teams.Once an SDM and PM had been hired for that team, I was temporarily moved to another team to assist with porting their hand-written JavaScript API client code to use Axios under TypeScript.Acted as Kumo’s point of contact with the “language teams” (teams of support agents working in languages other than English.), gathering and refining their requirements and then interfacing them with the correct Kumo teams.Was part of a 10-person working group – consisting of representatives from AWS’s two largest support organisations, senior SDEs and a principal engineer, and Kumo leadership – to determine the “future of case routing” within AWS Support.Chosen by the working group to design Kumo’s new case-routing platform based on the tenets chosen by the group. Helped in forming a new development team to implement the platform, completed architecture and high-level designs, and led the team in development.

Personal development and homeschooling. Activities during this time included:Study: Reviewed CS essentials such as data structures and algorithms. Reviewed and exercised updates to the C++ standard. Pursued a personal interest in AI and machine learning, mathematics and Unity development.Contract work: Performed various contract work items for my previous employer (Pointer S.A) on products for which I had been a key developer. Provided occasional, ongoing telephonic support to both the development and IT teams.

Started as a C++ developer for Racal S.A., who were bought by the Thales Group shortly thereafter and merged with Global Telematics to form Thales Telematics S.A.Worked in C++ on both components of a client-server fleet management system, and on the back- end communications switch used by the system.Promoted to team lead in 2003, and architect in 2005. Remained with the company when Pointer Telocation acquired it from Thales in 2014. Took on the role of Scrum Master in 2017.Performed the roles of Systems Architect and Software Architect. Led and mentored the development team in C++, C#, Microsoft T-SQL, and the use of tools such as Visual Studio Team Services and Git.
