Founder & Ceo

Current

Lansing, Mi

Early in my career as a prosecuting attorney I recognized a barrier at domestic violence shelters: they were not accepting families with pets. I started teaching about this in 2000, formally launched the SAF-T Program in October 2010 and it became a non profit in January 2018. I wrote the SAF-T Start-Up Guide to clearly and concisely outline how a domestic violence shelter can create on-site pet housing. With 68% of American homes having a pet and up to 65% of women refusing or delaying leaving an abusive home out of fear of leaving their pets or livestock behind, SAF-T is saving lives. The program has grown to over 150 shelters in the US (covering 39 states), Canada, Australia, Netherlands, and New Zealand.
