I am a nurse with over 30 years of clinical experience in critical care, cath lab and medical surgical nursing and am credentialed as a clinical nurse specialist in adult/gero nursing. In addition to being a clinical educator for med-surg, I'm integrally involved in policy and practice change in my organization. I have a leadership position in the Nurse Practice Council, a multidisciplinary team which evaluates nursing practice and establishes practice guidelines utilizing evidenced based practice. I evaluate all clinical products (outside of the OR) for suitability, setting up pilots on the units for evaluation and coordinate the implementation if the product is found clinically acceptable. My new graduate nurse program has a 2 year retention rate of 78%. Our CAUTI& CLABSI rates have dropped to 0.76 through the multidisciplinary efforts of our CAUTI/CLABSI team of which I hold a leadership role. Healthcare has evolved exponentially in the last 5-7 years, as compared to my earlier years in nursing. I see this as a challenge and I'm passionate about being a part of this dynamic evolution.
