I am currently an Architect at Oracle. I lead a distributed team working on the lower half of the database, focusing on improving the performance of data access and query evaluation. Before that, I earned my MS and PhD in Computer Sciences at the University of Wisconsin - Madison where I studied database systems.While I work on product, I also try to keep a toe in the database research community. I have been a PC member for: 2015 VLDB PhD Workshop, 2017 SIGMOD Demo Track, 2017 and 2018 VLDB, 2017 HPTS, and 2017 ICDE. I received a Top Reviewer award at VLDB 2017 (9 out of ~180 reviewers were recognized).I am honored to be considered one of Oracle's 26 "Rock Star" Engineers (though if you hate the term rock star, please recognize that I did not choose it). I was also featured as one of Goldieblox's "Engineers in the Wild."

Since the In Memory Option came to market in July 2014 with the release of Oracle 12.1.0.2 [discussed below], I have worked on multiple performance-enhancing features. These features have not yet been announced, but will make it into the next Oracle release.

The in-memory option will increase the overall performance of analytics queries by keeping data in memory in special columnar SIMD-optimized storage formats. The in-memory option is ACID, with synchronous updates, insertions and deletions. It works "out of the box" with the majority of the database's current features.I am one of the lead engineers on the project and fully integrated the in-memory scans into the core database code. I also designed and implemented the new in-memory data formats and have worked extensively to further optimize and streamline query performance.
