Mission: Watershed Arts provides innovative contemporary arts education for adults, creating an arts conversation that is inter-disciplinary, cross-cultural and humanistic. We uphold the importance of the artist in society and in our own community. We host events and classes that stimulate fresh thought and discovery through exposure to the depth, context and practice of art. Our goal is to help adults experience and discuss the visual arts in a meaningful way. Our educational events deepen the understanding of art. We don't tell you what to think, we offer new methods for looking. We focus on “the art conversation” primarily through a series of core courses. We also offer stand-alone discussions and special events. Some classes ask students to engage with art-making tools in order to increase perception and awareness. We welcome all and aim to erase any hesitation to investigate art. Art is so deeply about being human. It has the capacity to engage and connect us: intellectually, spiritually, emotionally, aesthetically and even ethically. We begin with the awareness that we each bring our own subjective selves to viewing and making art. We provide a place to see and think about art. Truly seeing art, not just scanning or glancing, takes time. In a fast-moving world filled with images and without direct access to arts in the schools, adults have few places to contemplate the powers of art.
