Working for the City of San Diego Fire Rescue team in the department Lifeguards, I have job duties such as: water safety, public safety, office management (receiving calls and emails from the public and other lifeguard co workers), practicing safe medical protocols for medical aids and making sure that families are informed about chancing ocean conditions so everyone can be safe at the beach. Here in San Diego, we get thousands of beach goers whether they are from out of town or San Diego locals. As lifeguards we have to stay vigilant for up to 4 hours at a time scanning the ocean water for anyone who needs help or needs to be moved out of a dangerous area. As Lifeguards we practice being PROACTIVE, which means we manage problems before they even arise. We have to constantly be thinking about what the future might hold, and this skill is very helpful in any job. This makes us solve problems before they get out of control. Being a Lifeguard for 6 summers now, I have been able to train other Lifeguard interns and new Lifeguard I's on protocols and beach regulations. We have to be in CONSTANT communication with our team on the beach, which include the permanent lifeguard staff, Lifeguard Sergeants and Lifeguard Lieutenants. I am proficient in Lifeguard communication over our handheld radios which is extremely important to be able to communicate during a life or death emergency for someone at the beach.

As a Register Behavioral Technician I conducted in home therapy sessions with children from the ages of 2-7 years old, who have been diagnosed or are being assessed for Autism or delayed speech and learning capabilities. I was in charge of recording data during sessions while multitasking in keeping the child engaged and learning. I would also keep in close contact with the family on the child's progress and different programs after each session. I would have to make sure the child was motivated and engaged throughout the whole session. I also practiced great communication with my team on the case (my supervisors and other behavior interventionists) to make sure that our client and the family were getting the most productive service from our agency. I was able to handle high stress environments and still be efficient with my job tasks at hand. My main goal in being an ABA therapist was to make sure the child was safe, learning and making progress. The families were my second priority in making sure they were supported and teaching them strategies to make sure the child was staying consistent with their therapy when we were not there. I know I will be able to carry these skills into any new job position in the future.

As a Teacher's Assistant for third and fourth graders at Innovations Academy Charter School, I would hold small group instructions, lead reading and math groups, substitute teach full days, asses students DRA reading levels, lunch and recess safety observation for the students, hold small group "check-ins" with students who had conflicts with one another and resolve and make plans for these students so they could have a safe learning environment, stay in touch with parents about the students day and progress they are making inside and outside the classroom, lead the students to different extracurriclar actinides and classes throughout the week, drive students on field trips, supervise during field trips of my class and also other classes who needed help, participate in whole school staff meetings, communicate with same grade teacher team members and help create plans for projects, academic progress and social emotional plans for each individual student.
