Manages all day-to-day activities of the Foundation including programmatic, fiscal, and grantmaking operations. Provides thoughtful leadership to the Board of Directors and staff and advises, partners with, and supervises the Foundation’s Program Executives with respect to the Foundation’s grants. Develops and oversees grantmaking activities for new program areas as needed. The Zellerbach Family Foundation (ZFF) helps integrate new populations, lift up unheard voices, promote overlooked talent, and support families. ZFF is a San Francisco-based funder that seeks to advance constructive social change through human service system reform, support for immigrants and refugees, and a commitment to a thriving Bay Area arts community.

Oversaw departmental operations including business, finance, human resources, information technology, facilities, and other services. Managed a $35 million operating budget and supervised 38 managers and staff. Served as main point of contact for the Mayor’s Office, Board of Supervisors, media, system stakeholders, labor organizations, and the community. Managed contract and labor negotiations for seven different labor organizations.Accomplishments -Spearheaded a collaborative with multiple City Departments to create a single strategy for the funding and delivery of over $14 million in community-based violence prevention programs, eliminating redundancies in administrative tasks for City departments and contractors and duplicative funding efforts. -Reduced overtime spending by over $1,000,000 annually through refined operations and staff management -Reformed department sick-leave policies and practices to eliminate chronic sick leave abuse -Generated over $2 million in public and private grants -Led effort to replace the Department’s antiquated paper-based case files with a web-based case management system -Brought department into compliance with city’s contracting rules as well as state and federal requirements under Title IV-E -Led a department-wide strategic planning and community engagement initiative -Established an unprecedented partnership with key juvenile justice system stakeholders to develop a post-dispositional Reentry Court for youth sent to long-term commitments -Oversaw a comprehensive Cost-Benefit Analysis comparing all dispositional options for San Francisco youth-Created a new program based on the “Missouri Model” for Log Cabin Ranch, San Francisco’s only post-adjudication placement facility for boys. Efforts included key stakeholder outreach; coordination with the SF Mayor's office; and development of new programming focusing on the “green” sector.

Performed detailed analysis of departmental budgets totaling approximately $500 million. Served as key contact on budget, policy and program matters between the Mayor’s Office and city departments, members of the Board of Supervisors and their staff, community organizations, labor representatives, and the public. Developed expertise in the budget, organization, management structure, staffing utilization, programs, and operating procedures of assigned departments including the city’s key criminal justice departments. Interpreted city financial policies for city departments and made recommendations on the appropriateness of policy changes. Participated as Mayor’s Office staff liaison to commissions, citizen advisory committees, working groups, special committees, Board of Supervisor’s Budget and Finance Committee hearings, and other official or quasi-official entities

Supervised a team of grant auditors as they conducted audits on over $70 million in federal grants. Reviewed and edited staff work papers. Wrote and edited audit reports. Acted as a liaison between grant monitors and Office of Justice Programs staff and management. Collaborated with the Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs to develop a grant universe for future audits. Partnered with internal management on strategic planning, staffing, and the development of a national grant audit guide. Conducted entrance and exit conferences with grantees.

Collaborated with state and local agencies to develop and support innovate approaches to community building and youth development efforts. Managed $4 million annual grant budget. Reviewed, analyzed, and investigated grant proposals through site visits, financial analysis, and management and program evaluations. Prepared application summary reports and presented recommendations to the foundation president and Board of Directors. Monitored existing grants through budget review and analysis, tracking reports, and interviews.
