As an MA at Denver West Pediatrics, I work with patients ranging from neonates to young adults, supporting three pediatricians and three PAs in a close-knit private practice. My responsibilities include taking age-appropriate vitals and working daily within EMR systems. Additionally, I will administer vaccinations and immunizations and perform blood draws, illness-specific testing, genetic testing, and hemoglobin and iron testing. Building close relationships with families as they bring in their newborns has been incredibly rewarding, and I look forward to fostering more long-term relationships in this role.

Aid in teaching EMT students in a laboratory setting practicing EMT skills such as patient trauma assessment/management, patient medical assessment/management, BVM ventilation of an apneic adult patient, oxygen administration by non-rebreather mask, spinal immobilization, and bleeding control/shock management.

I responded to emergency and non-emergency medical calls within San Diego county to provide patient care and transportation to and from healthcare facilities. Patient transports I completed included Emergency BLS-EMT calls, discharges, bariatric patient transports, medevac transports, interfacility transfers, radiology appointments, and assisting in RN Critical Care Transports. I administered basic life support and critical care interventions as needed during patient transfers while maintaining accurate documentation of patient care, including medical histories and treatment provided. I had the opportunity to collaborate with healthcare professionals and communicate effectively with patients and their families. I provided empathetic and individualized care while adhering to all county medical protocols, safety procedures, and regulatory requirements. I was able to act swiftly and decisively in high-pressure situations to ensure the well-being of patients during transport and during transfers at facilities.

Shadowed a general surgeon in the operating room at Avista Adventist Hospital. Had the opportunity to observe and actively ask questions during operations including a sigmoid colectomy, the removal of a lipoma in the cervical spine region, inguinal hernia and umbilical hernia operations, a cholecystectomy, and an appendectomy. Open surgery, robotic surgery, and laparoscopic surgery were observed. Shadowed in the delivery room for a cesarean section as well. Was able to observe and ask questions during the surgery as well as shadow the medical team during follow-up treatment of the newborn in the NICU. Shadowed in the delivery room and operating room for a total of 20 hours.

Volunteered 8 hours a week in the Emergency Department and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) alongside nurses and physicians to optimize patient care. Engaged in conversations and asked questions regarding causes and solutions for diagnoses. Gained valuable experience with medical terminology. Had the opportunity to shadow with physicians in the delivery room and the operating room for surgeries including a sigmoid colectomy, the removal of a lipoma in the cervical spine region, inguinal hernia and umbilical hernia operations, a cholecystectomy, and an appendectomy. Open surgery, robotic surgery, and laparoscopic surgery were observed.

Certified Registered Behavioral Technician (RBT). I worked to provide therapy to children and families impacted by autism. Met with clients twice a week and implemented behavioral interventions specific to each client. The position required patience, resilience, and passion for helping children. I aided in teaching clients the social, behavioral, and living skills they need to succeed in daily life. The position allowed me to apply my behavioral neuroscience major while pursuing my passion for helping others.

Shadowed a PA who offers treatment of acute and chronic pain due to musculoskeletal, neurological and orthopedic conditions and specializes treatment of cervical dystonia with Botox and chronic migraines. Observed patient diagnoses and treatment options for a wide variety of chronic pain conditions. Shadowed in the medical office for a total of 20 hours.

Red Cross Certified. Worked to sustain a safe environment for children with the responsibility of preparing meals, driving children to activities and appointments, organizing the house, and tutoring for schoolwork. Developed effective communication with parents and children. Built awareness and preparedness skills.

Arranged and restocked blankets, pillowcases, gowns, and washcloths in their correct places to allow the hospital staff all of the supplies necessary to allow for optimal patient care in the Emergency Room.Assisted at the front desk to get wheelchairs for patients to make the patient’s experience more comfortable and allow for quicker help from the EMT in the Emergency Room.Led patients back to their rooms in the Emergency Room when appropriate to allow for staff to continue to assist as many patients as possible at the front desk.Presented Lutheran Medical Center’s free service called My Chart to patients to kickstart their account for after their discharge from the hospital to allow access to their medical records so they were easily accessible.Communicated with patients when appropriate on how they were doing and what their interests were to divert their attention away from their hospital visit for a while and improve their day as much as possible.Collaborated with the nurses to stay consistent with the dietary restrictions of patients to guarantee that the patients’ well being would improve.
