Philly Thrive organizes for environmental, racial, and economic justice in Philadelphia, the poorest big city in the U.S. Through our grassroots organizing, we won a permanent closure of the PES oil refinery, formerly the largest oil refinery on the East Coast, and an end to 154 years of pollution. Philly Thrive's current campaign contests for justice in the redevelopment of the former refinery site, the largest redevelopment project in Philadelphia's history.In my role, I lead press, social media, and general messaging strategy for the campaign, coordinate direct actions, and recruit new members. I provided project management, business development, research, data analysis, and client-facing services to support Integral Group's (renamed Introba) Advanced Energy Services (AES) practice. Our Advanced Energy practice specializes in architecting, analyzing, and procuring microgrid, zero carbon, transit electrification, and other advanced energy projects. I was a Lead Solar Ambassador for RE-volv, a solar non-profit based in San Francisco. In the spring of 2018, my team raised $37,000 to install a 11.4 kW system on a North Philadelphia non-profit. This project aimed to make solar energy affordable and accessible, create green jobs, and increase the inclusion and prioritization of low-income communities in the transition to clean energy systems. I led a team of ten students, organized three-hour weekly meetings, wrote crowdfunding video scripts, organized public outreach events, oversaw grant research and writing, created crowdfunding campaign strategies, organized solar education events, and maintained bi-weekly communication with RE-volv management and our community partner.

I supported the Distributed Energy Resources Authority Act (DERAA) campaign under the Coalition for a Resilient DC. Core responsibilities included composing the campaign’s political strategy, drafting the whitepapers explaining the bill’s logic flow, drafting the press release, and meeting with the Mayor's legislative advisor to pitch the bill.

I conducted research to support city climate action planning work, zero carbon campus planning projects, and modeling for renewable energy and battery storage projects. Major projects included collaborating with the Department of Energy and Environment to build a social justice policy evaluation framework for Washington D.C.’s Carbon Neutrality Strategy, evaluating the resiliency value of CHP plants and demand flexibility techniques, and researching to identify leads for new clients.

I worked with Swarthmore College Professor Bradley Davidson and high school students in the Karabots Program at the Philadelphia Mutter Museum to develop a public exhibit about cancer biology, which was on display at the Mutter Museum and Philadelphia's 2019 Science Festival. I planned and taught lessons about cancer biology and cellular communication/miscommunication, and assisted the students as they designed their exhibit. Utilizing materials from the College of Physicians, including the Museum and the Historical Medical Library, the exhibit demonstrated fundamental concepts in cell signaling, the role of signaling in embryogenesis and the contribution of signaling disorders to human disease.

I worked with Philly Thrive's strategy team to launch the organization’s campaign, #PayUpPES. This campaign intended to win reparations for fence-line community members who are impacted by the PES Oil Refinery's toxic gas emissions. I helped to plan campaign actions and design the campaign's six-month arc. Additionally, I worked with the media & communications team to upgrade Philly Thrive’s social media platforms and re-design their website using NationBuilder software. I also designed and created content for a public education flyer about climate change and the health impacts of the PES Oil Refinery. I raised over $6000 in profits to support a campaign to raise the Minimum Compensation Ordinance for 25,000 low-wage workers in the San Francisco area (more than three times the amount the Coalition had ever made from previous dinners). I planned, executed and emceed the Coalition’s Seventh Annual Awards Dinner. My daily activities included phone banking, managing the event budget and ticket sales, communicating to the Coalition’s list serve, photographing and videotaping San Francisco town hall meetings for press coverage, creating marketing materials, and organizing and collaborating with SF labor union leaders.
