I have over ten years of experience in the education sector, where I have developed and implemented effective and engaging literacy programs for students, families, and educators. As the Chief of Development at I Would Rather Be Reading, a nonprofit organization that fosters a love of reading and develops social emotional skills among children, I am responsible for creating and managing student, family, and educator programming, as well as securing funding and partnerships for our initiatives. I am excited to meet and connect with current and future colleagues. Please reach out!Prior to joining I Would Rather Be Reading, I worked as a Reading Recovery Teacher at Jefferson County Public Schools, where I provided differentiated literacy instruction for the most struggling primary students in one-on-one and small group settings. I used data-driven and research-based strategies to assess and monitor student progress, and collaborated with classroom teachers and other specialists to support student success. I also mentored and coached new teachers, and participated in ongoing professional development. Some of my achievements include increasing the percentage of students who reached grade-level reading standards, and securing multiple grants and donations for books and materials. I leveraged my teaching, mentoring, interpersonal, and organizational skills to make a positive impact on the literacy outcomes of my students and colleagues.
