Gaining experience in the events industry, I recently started working with door staff at the 9:30 Club concert venue. My responsibilities range from general security and access control to customer service within the space - checking IDs, answering questions, ensuring patron safety and health during shows, and even interacting with talent. I also help to set up the venue and deconstruct/clean at the end of the night, seeing how a concert is run from the very beginning to very end.

I was selected as part of the fourth cohort for SOC3, American University's new student-run creative agency. The concept was brought to life by Public Relations professor Pallavi Kumar to offer Communications students a change to gain class credit and real-world experience while receiving a stipend for their time and work.During the 2023 spring semester, I worked with other students from all Comm disciplines (Journalism, Film Studies, Graphic Design, etc.) to produce ideas and deliverables for ALDI and the DC League of Women Voters. Alongside all of this, my specific Brand Development group facilitated interactions with existing and potential SOC3 donors to ensure the agency would have funding for the next cohort in the fall.

This full-time internship was in the Metropolitan Washington Council of Government's Transportation department. The position included event work - planning, setup, and registration; survey analytics - using software to convert data into graphs and written deliverables; editing documents - press releases, State of the Commute publication, ads, etc.; covering the phone call line - taking information, addressing public concerns and problem solving; and using Adobe and graphic design platforms to create ads and instructional videos.

During my sophomore year at American, I connected with someone working for Bond Events, an event production agency local to the DC area. At the time, they needed more hands to help with the setup, registration, and deconstruction for some bigger-scale events. I was brought on for a gala at the Andrew Mellon Auditorium and then continued to be contacted for a ceremony at the Anthem, a popup at the Wheaton Mall, and some apartment complex openings. I was able to experience both small and large, high-profile events with the agency, being there for any type of assistance from start to finish.

Lifesteps, Inc. created the position of Community Relations Clerk in order to provide a specific title for my time at the nonprofit this past summer. It's a small and local organization that offers services to young children, adults with disabilities, and senior citizens in the community in the form of education and/or caregivers. I was brought in to their community relations department to begin planning events and marketing for their upcoming 100th anniversary. Though I was able to complete those tasks given, I also received valuable experience in development, social media, graphic design, and client relations over the months.
