Summer 2017: Lead an amazing group of 15 cyclists on a self-contained cross-country journey, the Northern Tier route, Anacortes, WA to Bar Harbor, ME.Organize and lead recreational and educational tours around the US and Canada with a focus on self-contained and gravel/dirt touring routes. South Dakota

As a Manager, Teacher Leadership Development for Teach for America - South Dakota, I coached 20 TFA corps members who are classroom teachers on Rosebud and Pine Ridge Reservation. I'm really interested in social justice, culturally responsive pedagogy, Native education, all educational equity and literacy education and felt so lucky to have a role where I got to work towards those, partnering with students, teachers, administrators and community, each day. In this role, I also had the opportunity to lead professional development for small and large groups, lead TFA regional alumni work (including starting a fellowship for alumni and veteran teachers), manage awards applications and teaching portfolios for all of our teachers, and lead student leadership programming and other statewide events!

Todd County School District

I designed curriculum and taught English Language Arts classes for 9th grade, 10th grade and 11th grade students, and also Speech and Creative Writing classes. I also coached the Oral Interpretation team and organized field trips and guest speakers for the English department and led a Sophomore Achievement Day.

South Elementary

-Led 4th and 5th grade classes in all subject areas-Developed rigorous, common-core standards aligned, project-based curriculum for all elementary subjects -Led after school programs like Hiking and Nature Photography, Creative Writing Club, Newspaper as well as coordinated other after school clubs-Coordinated field trips, workshops, and guest speaker events for the district’s students-On a team, refined districts’ upper elementary math curriculum for common core state standards shifts-Facilitated staff discussions on data, student work and school improvement as a member of the Building Leadership Team

At the request of my principal, I lead the revival of an afterschool program that provided extra-curricular activities outside of sports. The first year, it was me and a co-teacher leading most of the activites, everyday Monday-Thursday, clubs that culminated in projects or performances i.e. Science Club produced science fair projects, Drama Club put on a school-wide performance that students wrote and acted in, Newspaper Club produced a school-wide zine, etc. That year 60 students participated, around 30 each night. By my third year, we had 3 monthly clubs going each month, staffed by community members, students' family members, teachers from around the district. I still ran some clubs, Creative Writing Club and Fishing/Kayaking Club but also spent time taking pictures and doing write-ups for our district-wide publication, writing minor grants and coordinating programming that our students wanted. Many students wanted traditional Lakota clubs, so we were able to offer Drum Making, Lakota Doll Making, Shawl Making, Drumming, Language, etc and other students and families wanted other activities that were less available to elementary students in such a rural area, so we were able to offer Ballet, Tennis, etc drawing on the talents and passions of many teachers and community members. By that third year, over 120 attended and up to 70 per evening.

I worked closely with the Program Director and On-site Program Coordinator to support Field Trips, on-site and off-site Writing Workshops, Summer Programming, and Publishing projects; work with students on a regular basis; run or support writing workshops; and support events and initiatives. I worked with teachers and other interns to develop new programming and a tutoring system.
