I offered communication assistance on an ad-hoc basis to professionals in the creative industry. Clients ranged from a managing director of a major art museum to private collectors, art dealers, a fine art printing press, a London-based art consultancy and numerous individual artists. Services included conducting research into funding bodies, assisting with fundraising applications, developing and implementing PR and marketing strategies, assisting with media relations, and organising the production of exhibitions and other events.

I acted as a personal assistant to art dealer, collector and curator, Paul Robertson. I was responsible for organising Paul’s personal and professional life, from co-ordinating meetings to making travel arrangements, and various aspects of administrative assistance, such as shipping work, maintaining financial records, maintaining and updating client profiles, as well as developing and implementing strategies to attract new clients. I also acted as Paul’s personal publicist and have recently worked alongside the Victoria and Albert Museum’s press office in London to help publicise Robertson’s piece in the hit ‘David Bowie Is’ exhibition. His ‘Periodic Table of Bowie’ received substantial coverage, including mentions in Vogue, The Telegraph andBBC News.

At Wren and Bell, I oversaw various aspects of office administration, from handling internal and external correspondence to assisting with maintenance of financial records. Part of the position additionally included a range of marketing activities, such as reviewing and editing tender documents and company reports, writing content for and assisting with the design of the firm’s new website and conducting market research to attract new clients.

I taught undergraduate courses in political science and international relations. This role included lecturing on my own academic interests based on research conducted for my master’s degree, facilitating small-group discussions in tutorials, assessing student presentation skills in class, assisting with generating an understanding of weekly readings and course assignments, as well as marking essays.

I was employed by a local charity that worked to reduce the harm associated with drug and alcohol misuse. My main responsibility was to develop a strategic yet creative marketing and fundraising strategy designed to improve the charity’s image and ensure its survival. I helped develop and implement a variety of fundraising schemes, from initiating GiftAID and online giving through to organizing a variety of fundraising events. I also assisted fundraising efforts by researching funding sources, building a grant database, and writing funding applications.

I acted as a voluntary assistant to an artist collective in Aberdeen. I assisted with renovating studio and exhibition spaces, organizing exhibitions, writing publications and editorials, planning and publicizing events and other general gallery duties. I often acted as the group’s representative when attending information sessions or meetings with cultural bodies, like the local council or Creative Scotland.
