My end goal post graduate school is to become a licensed mental health counselor. In May of 2024 I expect to have my Master of Arts in Forensic Mental health Counseling from Westfield State University. During my experience at Westfield State University, both graduate and undergraduate, I have learned a lot about the field of forensic psychology. In my undergraduate degree I received a minor in criminal justice which jumpstarted my knowledge of the criminal justice system. In graduate school, I have had classes focused on theories, assessment and treatment of those who have been incarcerated. Although my work thus far has been focused on adults I am open to exploring working with juveniles as well.I have been working at BHN since June of 2021 at their Adult Community Crisis Stabilization Unit in Springfield MA. In my work there I have been able to apply what I was learning in course work to my counseling and group work there. In addition to working at BHN, I have had two very informative internships. One in my undergraduate degree, as a relaxation coach where I worked 1:1 with clients to help them develop their own personalized relaxation toolbox. My second internship in my graduate degree is at the Hampden County Men's Jail in Ludlow. In this experience I have been working with inmates on therapeutic skills building and some aftercare planning. I have also been able to conduct assessments on some individuals while interning.My main focus for therapeutic approaches thus far have been using techniques from Person-Centered, Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing and Dialectical-Behavioral Therapy. Overall, I am very motivated to help those in need.
