    As an ET & Cryo Technician, I am responsible for new tasks such as performing sperm and embryo cryopreservation, thawing sperm and embryos used for IVF or embryo transfers, and performing embryo transfers in pseudo-pregnant mice and rats. To complete these tasks, I must also maintain all necessary logs, paperwork, and reports for cryopreservation of sperm and embryos, perform control checks on cryopreservation runs, prepare anesthesia and track controlled substances used for live recovery surgeries, and count and prepare embryos created for transfer to the ET lab at the Gnotobiotics site. In my position, some other things I am responsible for include: continuous inventory of all cryopreserved material including material split with the Albany site, collecting tissues and organs upon customer request, and preparing and inject hormones necessary to super-ovulate donor mice and rats.

    As an Embryology Laboratory Assistant, I am responsible for maintaining the laboratory’s efficiency and effectiveness. In this role, I prepare weekly medias for use during IVF processes and test medias to approve their use by following protocols outlined in SOPs. Additionally, I prepare daily IVF labels, medias, and dishes for next day IVF including wash dishes, female (fresh and frozen IVF) media and dishes, and male dishes. I am also responsible for performing general laboratory maintenance, such as instrument temperature checks and calibration, washing and sterilizing surgical tools and glassware via autoclaving, monitoring supply inventory, and ordering supplies. I also aid in various laboratory processes throughout the day such as euthanizing, harvesting, and processing reproductive organs from both male and female donors, counting and moving embryos at different cell stages, and identifying poor embryo morphology. I also prepare labels, tissue collection vials, and straws for sperm and/or embryo cryopreservation. Finally, I utilize Animal Master to record IVF digital donor collection and utilize MiceAge to aid the lab in maintaining an accurate cryopreservation inventory.
