I'm a librarian currently working as an IT Manager. I'm a lifelong learner and in my "spare time" (what's that??) I'm an avid genealogist. I taught myself web design skills like HTML and CSS as a middle-schooler (waaaay back in the late 20th c.) as a way to customize my fan sites beyond what you could do with a generic page builder (RIP Geocities and Tripod). Once blogging and niche personal websites were in vogue, I taught myself PHP to be able to create templated layouts and eventually to customize my various Wordpress installations. Now I'm the webmaster for my employer and several other organizations.You might have noticed that all of the above deals with what I taught myself because I wanted to a) make something I love, and b) make it look nice by going beyond the basic WYSIWYG options available to me. However, since these were all skills I gathered by looking at the source code for sites I liked so I could copy and learn from how they did it, I didn't have a good grasp on the "proper" way to do things. That's why I enrolled in Code Louisville, and it's been a fantastic experience so far!
