As well as being on the executive committee overseeing the planning and management of the conference, I was responsible for developing the conference program and in 2019 I facilitated the conference.

It works with individuals, governments, institutions and other entities that affect the public interest throughout the world. IAP2 is the leading public participation Association in Australasia.As a committee member at IAP2, I was part of a number of projects, leading change, and encouraging best practices. I set up the very popular Lecture Series where I invited experienced practitioners to share their knowledge in a series of public lectures.

In my time with Sinclair Knight Merz, I managed and grew a community engagement team within the Environment division. Together we managed numerous community and business development projects to achieve key outcomes.With so many moving parts, this is where I became acutely aware of the need for better tools and software in stakeholder management. This in part, gave me the inspiration to start Darzin, my software company specialising in contact management and data analysis for stakeholder engagement.

In this role, I was responsible for marketing across the various Lend Lease businesses in Asia. While it was a step away from my usual fields (stakeholder relationship management and engagement), I found there was a lot of overlap. It broadened my understanding of the complex landscapes organisations operate within.

In 1996, I founded my own consulting business to provide strategic advice to government and private sector clients on stakeholder relations, policy, strategic planning and plan implementation. Throughout this time, I managed the communications programs for a number of projects. This included the South East Transit Project and the Integrated Regional Transport Plan for South East Queensland.This was my first experience of running my own business and while I did move back into employment a few years later, I knew it wouldn’t be long before I’d work for myself again.

During this role, I managed the strategic planning and communications team. I played a major role in developing policy guidelines, handbooks, training programs and more for a number of agencies (including the Roads and Traffic Authority NSW and the Local Government Land Management Act). I also held a position on the management board.
