Copy edit local and wire stories to fit both AP Style and the style of The Durango Herald. I designed news pages using essential elements such as headlines, photos, cutlines, breakout boxes, etc. Used creative elements such as art heds, (stock) photos, etc., to bring life and color to section fronts. I budgeted time wisely to ensure pages are creative, effective and sent by deadline. Designed the front page (1A) during nightside shift once a week. I efficiently arranged elements on the page to maintain the paper's functionality, and creatively to capture the reader's attention.Notable Accomplishments:►Applied traditional techniques of modular design and headline hierarchy while keeping lookout for new elements to add freshness to the page

Supervised group of four to six student copy editors once a week during nightside shift. I posted news stories online and update daily home page on ColumbiaMissourian.com.Notable Contributions:►Strengthened journalism students' editing skills by addressing errors in their work and suggesting methods to avoid future mistakes.

Assisted in five major departments over course of four months. For the News/Sports desk, I followed modular design principles and AP style to edit and design five to six pages a day. Notable Accomplishments:►Features: Applied creative design techniques to layout features pages for weekly entertainment and travel magazines.►Photo: Transfered photos into wire services and worked photo toning to correspond with various international presses.►Web: Uploaded local stories from print editions to Stripes.com using basic (X)HTML coding.

Copy edited opinion and feature stories during dayside shifts an average of 15 hours a week. I edited stories daily for Web site updates and news bursts. Wrote headlines, sub-headlines, photo captions, story teasers, etc., as well as trimmed wire stories and letters to the editor to fit the desired style of the Missourian.
