I am an appellate practitioner and co-owner of Kort Law Firm LLC, which I opened in 2016 with my law partner (and father) in my hometown of Kansas City. I represent clients in state and federal courts of appeal, prepare and file appellate briefs, and present oral arguments in court. I am frequently consulted by trial attorneys on questions regarding appellate procedure, issues of law, preserving the record on appeal, and preparation of post-trial motions. In 1999, I received my law degree from the University of Texas School of Law, and spent most of my 23-year legal career practicing and teaching appellate litigation. I clerked for a federal judge, spent 3 years in BigLaw as an associate, and briefly joined a small plaintiff's firm before switching to legal academia full time. Between 2006-2015, I taught lawyering skills including first-year and upper-level Iegal writing and appellate advocacy at several law schools including Duke University School of Law, North Carolina Central University School of Law, Atlanta's John Marshall School of Law, and the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Law. I feel incredibly fortunate to spend my career using my best skills to positively affect others.
