Identified an energy landscape for carbohydrate-aromatic CH-π stacking interactions using bioinformatic analysis, first principles, quantum mechanical energetics calculations, and machine learning models. Demonstrated that CH-π stacking interactions form an essential interplay with hydrogen bonds to stabilize non-covalent protein-carbohydrate binding interactions. Evaluated protein-carbohydrate binding dynamics using metadynamics enhanced sampling simulations. Collaborated with experimental scientists to evaluate several protein-carbohydrate interactions. Mentored one graduate student and two undergraduate students in designing and completing successful research projects that used quantum mechanics, molecular simulation, and machine learning to evaluate protein-carbohydrate interactions.
