Instructor Of General MicrobiologyMadison College Jan 2015 - Jun 2016Madison, Wisconsin AreaI am an experienced instructor with a Ph.D. in Microbiology and Immunology. I have taught college level microbiology in both traditional 14 week format and an accelerated 8 week format. As a technically trained molecular biologist/microbiologist with 8+ years laboratory experience, I integrate practical real world scenarios and knowledge into the core concepts of classic microbiology. I have expertise communicating, educating and purveying scientific information and techniques to colleagues, students and non-scientists.I prepared course syllabus and lectures. I developed assessments for this course including worksheets, problem sets, quizzes and exams to track students understanding and adjust lectures as needed. I utilized active learning techniques, small group projects, traditional lecture methods and one-on-one meetings with students to ensure each individuals learning needs were met. I engage learners with an interactive and organic classroom setting. Timely and active use of blackboard and other student resources are a part of my daily routine and important aspects of providing a supportive learning environment. I provide students multiple opportunities to informally and formally provide feedback; this is how I keep my course evolving to meet the needs of the students. I integrated current events relating to microbiology and new developments in research and technology into course material to keep the course material applicable and grounded in real world situations and events. -
Research Specialist/ Lab ManagerUniversity Of Wisconsin-Madison Nov 2013 - 2014Madison, Wisconsin AreaResearch the role of YY1 and other Polycomb Group Proteins in Diffuse Large B Cell Lymphoma.Managed a clinical/ basic science research laboratory in the School of Vet-Med. Managed the laboratory from start up to fluidly functioning in under 6 months. During this time I collected and analyzed blood and tissue samples from canine oncology patients. Maintained detailed records of patient information, primary samples, RNA, DNA, protein, and resultant data (linked back to the patient ID). Handled and injected laboratory mice, dissected mice and isolated bone marrow from the long bones, then cultured and infected the mouse bone marrow cells. Performed flow cytometry on infected mouse bone marrow and progenitor stem cell lines. Analyzed gene and protein expression in primary blood, bone marrow and lymph node tissue aspirates. Produced virus and retroviral expression vectors, titred virus and performed viral infections. Wrote IACUC approved animal protocols and university approved biosafety protocols for the laboratory. Compiled, tabulated and graphically represented data for oral presentations and written reports of data. Organized and prepared materials and reagents for transportation from the laboratory to the animal facility for experimentation. Managed the everyday need of the laboratory. Trained, worked with and supervised summer students. -
