As an intern at Days End I was responsible for daily husbandry and care for approximately 60 rescued horses. This included routine barn chores such as changing water buckets, cleaning stalls, grooming the horses, and treating common ailments such as rain rot. In addition, for the animals in critical condition or those that were sick, I took their vital signs every 4 hours, and offered them meals. Another aspect of the internship was giving the public tours of the facilities, and teaching them about Days End's mission.

In this role, I performed routine husbandry for the different animals, which included livestock, insects, small mammals, birds, and reptiles. Tasks included preparing meals, cleaning enclosures, and making enrichment for the animals.

This internship entailed me riding along on farm calls, observing surgical procedures at the hospital, and shadowing emergency visits. I supported the staff by restraining patients, cleaning equipment, and stocking the trucks for farm calls. It was a good glimpse into the day-to-day life of an equine veterinarian.
