I currently work as a Registered Dental Hygienist in a General Dental practice on Fridays. I am passionate about helping people with their healthcare, which many people don't realize how important oral hygiene can be to one's health. I am lucky to be able to get a total of one hour with all my patients, allowing me time to assess properly, do a thorough cleaning and still have time to educate. I am currently a fraud investigator in the Provider Compliance Unit for AHCCCS Office of Inspector General. As an investigator, I identify fraud, waste and abuse by AHCCCS providers. I handle a caseload of 60-70 active cases at the same time. I specialize in the dental cases because of my background experience, but also work behavioral health, medical, homecare, durable medical equipment and pharmacy cases. I am a Certified Professional Coder (CPC) and Certified Program Integrity Professional (CPIP) from the Medicaid Integrity Institute in Columbia, South Carolina. My skills as a fraud investigator include auditing medical/dental records, timesheets, financial documents and ad hoc reports. I interview providers and witnesses, as well as educate and inform providers on compliance and policy. I work with both outside and in-house legal counsel and have experience testifying in court. I research policy and I am knowledgeable on Medicaid, CMS and State/Federal policy, rules and statues. I communicate with health plan compliance officers on a regular basis and have joint cases that I work with the FBI and Attorney General's Medical Fraud Control Unit (MFCU). I do a lot of data analysis in our software system identifying outliers or red flags among AHCCCS providers. I'm extremely detailed and organized with my cases and have a review every 60-days with my supervisor. I am experienced with excel, CLEAR, Lexis Nexis and ACJIS. I finalize my investigations with writing a report of investigation or case closure depending on the final results. I have almost 2 years experience as a supervisor of a team of 9 investigators. I delegated work among the team and conducted case reviews every 60-days. I reviewed team's reports and gave directions on case steps needed. I was responsible for team timecards and time off requests. I sat in interview panels for new employees and helped in the training when hired.

As a registered dental hygienist I took radiographs and performed prophys and scaling and root planing with anesthesia and/or nitrous oxide on dental patients. I did patient assessments, including oral cancer screenings, full mouth perio probing and charting. I performed laser decontamination treatment and antimicrobial irrigation.
