My name is Allyson Fields and I am a current student at National University seeking my credential and masters degree for multiple subject degree. When I made the decision to pursue my career in education to become an elementary school teacher, I knew it was going to be something that would challenge me not only as a person but also as a student. Learning how to navigate through all the different hurdles and obstacles that I may face along the way was something that I knew I could do because I love a challenge. What has led me to pursue my dream to become a teacher started when I was a young girl. I used to have my own white board on the wall and I would have my stuffed animals all lined up on the ground and I would pretend to teach to them. It was something that I loved doing and as I got older the love for helping young children in education never changed. It brought joy to me to see students succeed. My mom has been teaching for 20 years, which is nearly all my life and I have always admired her love and dedication that she has as an educator. I hope to one day have the same passion for teaching as she does. When becoming a teacher it is important to know what your strengths are and how you can make your classroom effective. As a teacher, I am committed to the belief that all students can learn. I will develop an understanding of how to take responsibility for all students' academic learning outcomes, recognizing that I will need to hold high expectations for all students. Some skills that I feel that I need to further develop are working toward becoming a lifelong learner. I understand it is my responsibility for ongoing professional learning but also maintaining my certification as a member of the teaching profession. Also I aim to develop an understanding in how to be a productive member of a complex organization. Therefore, I aim to become familiar with issues of equity and justice within the structures and contexts of public education, including state, district, and school governance; curriculum and standards development; testing and assessment systems; and basic school finance. I hope to become the best teacher I can be. In the future I hope to pursue my professional learning in education after the credential program by getting my masters degree in education but to also take it a step further to get my doctorate degree. I have a lot of love for helping students and wanting them to succeed. The more education you get the better teacher you will be in my opinion and I hope that I push myself to be the best teacher that I can be.
