About Allyson Mengelt
As a graduate of UW-Madison with a degree in Human Development and Family Studies, I have spent the last four years cultivating my understanding of children and families from 'untraditional' and 'atypical' backgrounds. My passion stems from my own personal life growing up in a single-parent household and understanding the unique struggles that come from this family experience. With my current experience both in life and in the classroom, I understand how challenging the transition from childhood, to adolescence, and finally into adulthood can be. Numerous young people feel lost and unable to turn to those that don’t share in their experiences. The fluctuating state of the world has left many families in disarray and dismantled their foundations. My interest is to be a resource for those, children and adults alike, to positively foster their growth and development in a way that fits their current dynamic. My hope is that by continuing to be involved in this field of study, I can gain experience, both within a classroom and hands-on, with families of all backgrounds and compositions. My hope is to further my understanding and abilities through an internship or training position. In the future, I would like to translate this knowledge into skills that I can apply to real individuals and families seeking guidance through a full-time position. My goal is to be a helping-hand that can accompany those feeling lost or alone in their journey through life and relieve some of its pressure.
