I have been a high school educator for 15 years, fourteen of which I have spent with the Abington Heights School District. My passion for educating young people in the classroom, is equally matched with my passion for creating and leading professional development for adults. I am a Women's Leadership trainer for the Pennsylvania State Education Association, and have developed digital and in person training materials, facilitated trainings, created marketing materials, delivered speeches and participated in panels before hundreds of educators in the professional development space. I have a Masters in Education Development and Strategies from Wilkes University, and extensive experience in curriculum design. I have written curriculum for five courses taught at AHHS: Comparative World Studies, American Perspectives II, Practical Law, Psychology, and Civics and Government. Our high school social studies program is textbook free, thus I have spent my entire career creating and refining resources to meet the needs of my diverse body of students. I teach using the thematic approach and project based learning. I believe strongly that students must build meaningful connections with their communities so I specialize in making cross curricular connections and bringing real-life experiences to the classroom. I have connected my students with the peers/educators in classrooms around the world, border patrol agents, veterans, police officers, holocaust survivors, Congressmen/women and other influential members of our society, in hopes of helping them to see the value of activism in our democracy.I am presently attending Gallaudet University where I am pursuing proficiency in American Sign Language. My passion for ASL and partnering with the deaf community has led me to be create and advise the American Sign Language Club at my school for the last 3 years. I have also coached championship seasons in girls softball for two different high school/middle school programs. Volunteer work has always been at the heart of my professional life. I have worked with dozens of volunteer organizations dating back to high school: the American Red Cross, Ronald McDonald House, VFW and countless more.My most recent professional accolades include the Community Interrelations Award from the Pennsylvania State Education Association for my coordination of community wide volunteer efforts. I also a two time recipient of the Judith L Biggs Award for Excellence in Teaching from the Foreign Policy Association for my contributions to the Great Teachers Training Institute in New York City.
