As a nationally recognized expert and award-winning podcast host focused on educating culturally and linguistically diverse learners, I'm passionate about effecting lasting change through recognizing the unique role diversity, equity, and inclusion play in teaching and learning. I help school leaders and educational organizations, especially PK-12 curriculum publishers, transform their culture via understanding the presence, prevalence and impact of systemic racism, in order to improve the educational outcomes of marginalized learners. I work with educational publishing companies to ensure that the instructional materials developed for the classroom have diversity, equity, and inclusion in mind, free of deficit-based approaches. For over thirty years, I have dedicated my life and work to strengthening academic achievement in majority-of-color, low-wealth, large, urban school districts.I spent nearly twenty years in consultative sales for a major publisher. Then, I founded A L Berry Consulting, Inc. to pursue my true passion: to fight for educational equity for children of color to create equality of outcomes that make a difference in the world as a diversity equity and inclusion thought leader. Now, with three decades of experience in public education, relationship management, and learning services support in the nation's largest districts, I can serve even better. I can now partner directly with you to support your organization's work around diversity and inclusion, antiracism, changing mindsets, and, most importantly: creating a school culture and climate that promotes academic excellence for marginalized children - the historically underserved, left behind, or forgotten.

Ceo | Principal Consultant~Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Expert~SpeakerA L Berry Consulting, Inc. May 2018 - PresentHouston, Texas"It is a greater work to educate a child, in the true and larger sense of the word, than to rule a state" - William Ellery Channing. In many places, our marginalized children are not receiving a proper education. They are miseducated. They are undereducated. Our school systems are locked into a mindset that does not hold learners of color, or of low wealth, or of diversity, as deserving of the highest quality of education. The work of diversity, equity, inclusion, and antiracism in education has never been as vital as it is now.As CEO and principal consultant, I work directly with leaders of school systems, teachers' colleges, educational publishers, and other educational organizations to transform their culture. I provide workshops on diversity, equity, inclusion, and antiracism in the context of K-12 education. I focus on equity and inclusion in teaching, learning, curriculum, and instruction – decentering whiteness and honoring diversity in the classroom.I partner with educational publishing companies, providing equity reviews of instructional materials. My lens ensures that instructional materials properly represent a diversity of representation and thought that mirrors the demographic of our society. I look for equity – for approaches and outcomes that appropriately serve the marginalized learner, free of deficit-based methods and mindsets. And I look to ensure that inclusion is inclusive. I provide keynotes and workshops at conferences and events on diversity, equity, inclusion, and antiracism in K-12 schools. In addition, I prepare white papers and professional learning videos on diversity, equity, inclusion, and antiracism. On all things, I place a particular emphasis on English language arts, reading, and multilingual instruction – both developmental equity and intervention equity. -
