Graduate Research Assistant - Center For Wireless Telecommunication (Cwt)Virginia Tech Jan 2008 - May 2013Embedded development for software defined radios (SDR). Some of the projects I was involved in include:1- Android controlled multi-band multi-mode public safety cognitive radio (PSCR).The goal of this project was to migrate the CWT PSCR from a laptop based implementation to an embedded platform. As the lead graduate student on the project, I was involved in the initial system design and software/hardware partitioning of the system. The platform selected was a Beagleboard connected to a first generation USRP but then it transitioned to a USRP E100 series.I was also responsible for the General Purpose Processor (GPP) and Digital Signal Processor (DSP) integration which was needed to improve the processing performance when using the TI OMAP3530 processor. I developed an open source framework which allows GPP based software to set up and control DSP based processing components from C/C++ and also from Python using GNU Radio, an open source SDR toolkit. 2- RF Wideband sensor using mixed GPP/DSP/FPGA platform:This project was done using the Lyrtech Small Form Factor Software Defined Radio (SFF SDR) board. The goal was to evaluate the feasibility of using the Lyrtech SFF SDR board for future SDR applications. The FPGA code was developed using Simulink and Xilinx's Sysgen and the DSP code was developed using TI's Code Composer. My contribution was the FPGA development and the Lyrtech/Host computer interface to display the sensor results.3- Digital PLL:The goal of the project was to develop a Digital PLL on an Altera Stratix FPGA board for a class project as part of a three student team. One of the students was responsible for designing the PLL and calculating the loop filter coefficients and the other student was responsible for developing a fixed point C-based simulation of the PLL. My work was taking the C-based simulation and implementing it on the Stratix FPGA using the Altera Quartus II tool.
