For this leader in Storage Area Networking (SAN), diverse responsibilities in leading a 175-person software division have included the following:Release of our largest software project - which provided our High Availability, Security and FICON support to our Silkworm 12000 switching platform enabling its "director" classification in the marketplace. Our OEM partners have categorized this release as the highest quality release. Lead the Strategy for fabric-based virtualization for Brocade that resulted in the acquisition of Rhapsody Networks. Defined a fabric based IO processing virtualization solution and obtain multiple patents. Established a team and processes within software to develop/manage a regression test suite to exercise company's software releases before providing them to SQA. This greatly improved our quality and relationship with our SQA organization. Created a support software group to deal with customer issues, that has greatly reduced our critical accounts and turnaround our patch and maintenance release delivery. Lead various re-organizations during growth period for more optimal operation. Managed the organization through a couple of cost control personnel reductions. Defined processes for project management dealing with high level of concurrency. Improved the alignment and interlock of the planning with marketing associated with multiple concurrent projects and releases. Delivered a Managers Playbook. Joined Brocade as Director of Fabric Services team, grew organization from 9 people to 36 within a year. Led the organization to deliver the first Fabric Access* API library and the Security Fabric Operating System products.

For Tandem Computers' Austin Development Center created and managed the development of two product lines of High Availability Products. In both product lines, lead the strategy, definition of roadmaps, built the organizations, and drove the development that delivered the products. One product line was based on Windows NT*, and contributed to the development of Microsoft's Cluster Server MSCS through a partnership between Microsoft and Tandem. The other product line was UNIX based and allow us to re-sell SGI Servers with value add. Subsequently the technology was re-used on our fault-tolerant dual processor Telco products. Establish metrics and measurements to understand our availability numbers of our deployed products. At Tandem spent a number of years as an individual contributor working with Unix and NT. Developing a number of prototype products and contributing to existing releases in the areas of kernel memory management, remote mirroring and overall software fault-tolerance. Also lead the development of a software fault-injection tool to ensure that our products were properly tested.

Worked on the development and validation of the first fault-tolerant VAXft* platform and ASIC. Spent a couple of years working on the evaluation of VAXCluster* distributed software. Became an expert on the internals of the VMS Distributed Lock Manager and worked in the development of an algorithm to improve the times for cluster transitions. Developed device driver for MSCP Storage Protocol and Ethernet drivers for RT-11. Also developed backup program and CP/M emulator.
