Since its roots as a business thesis in 2011, HABI Footwear has been promoting responsible lifestyle and consumerism through socially- and environmentally-aware yet comfortable and trendy fashion. All of its product lines incorporate upcycled scrap cloth woven by women from communities across Quezon City, thereby reducing solid environmental waste while at the same time providing more sustainable livelihood and hard-skill training for the less empowered. Its Classic line of espadrilles also incorporates abáca (Manila hemp) and upcycled airliner tire scraps, adding to sustainability. The company directly buys the woven cloth from its partner communities, eliminating middle-man profiteering and promoting fair trade; and promotes the local industry by having all its products assembled in Marikina, the shoe capital of the Philippines.
