Born and raised in the Rockaways of Queens, New York City, Alphaeus Bey is an alumni of the University of California Berkeley, where he majored in Legal Studies. Alphaeus’ research interests in law broadly span from constitutional law; contract law; the administration of law and justice, the legislative processes; legal status; and legal personhood. His history interests include American Reconstruction and Post and Early Colonial America.Despite graduating 4th to last in August Martin High School’s 2011 class, he successfully balanced full-time work, school, and chronic homelessness while studying to be a paralegal at the City University of New York, Queensboro CC; Laguardia CC; and City College of Technology. He received an A.A. from Los Angeles City College magna cum laude as a Ralph Bunche Honor Scholar in 2022. Prior to his academic success, Alphaeus worked as an Electrician for over 4 years after attending Berk Trade and Business School in Long Island City, Queens in 2013. Inspired by his experiences with broken windows policing, the national debate surrounding stand-your-ground laws, and the slogan “I Can't Breathe” in 2014, he dedicated his life to public service. He would go on to assist in organizing some of the first Black Lives Matter protests in the city and join community organizations such as the Rockaway Youth Task Force. His first internship was in the campaign office of NY District 23's Assemblywoman Stacey Pheffer Amato during her first election campaign in 2016. He later unsuccessfully ran his own campaign after one semester at Berkeley for President of the Associated Students of the University of California.Although he grew up in a democratic-apolitical home and had many negative interactions with law enforcement, he embraced more of his long held conservative beliefs following compulsory vaccination mandates and the failure of bail reform policies in 2020. With Berkeley being the 4th most dangerous campus in the nation, he campaigned on further diversifying the UCPD and increasing security presence during his bid for Student Body President. He officially registered as a Republican in 2021 and became an Associate Delegate of the California Republican Party in 2023.Alphaeus plans on attending a T15 law school after graduating.
