Today, educational outcomes for students in New Mexico are poor. While our students are full of potential, in many places fewer than 50% of them will graduate from high school. We have to change this.Our region believes without hesitation that our students have the power to change this narrative. Over the last 15 years, our corps has grown into a regional organization of teachers with 200+ alumni who are invested in the communities we serve. They believe strongly in the hard work of our young people & continue to build innovative partnerships that will change outcomes for thousands of students. This work is always student-focused & community-led. Our team inherently believes in strengthening the sovereignty of Tribal Nations. This is why we are committed to recruiting more Native teachers & placing classroom leaders in schools across the Navajo Nation, the Pueblo of Zuni, and the small towns in between. We believe that one day all students in this nation will have the opportunity to attain an excellent education.

The institutional knowledge and unique perspectives provided by members of the YP4 Advisory Council will be integral to the YP4 staff's mission of building a sophisticated youth leadership development program capable of shaping a brave space for young progressives to convene, learn from one another, and develop the competitive practical skills to unapologetically live in their truth.-- Young People For is a yearlong leadership development program for young people committed to creating positive social change in their communities. Fellows represent diverse backgrounds, beliefs, and approaches to social change, and they are working on many different progressive issues on campuses and in communities across the country.

Alongside leading native organizing efforts in New Mexico for Secretary Hillary Clinton – I recruited, trained, and managed volunteers within 23 tribal nations. As one of five organizers at the front-line of the campaign, I coordinated phone banks and canvasses, sought political endorsements from tribal leaders, and met with community stakeholders across the state to deliver an effective campaign message. We surpassed our ground goals on Election Day when all precincts with a large Native American population voted for Secretary Clinton. Our team received resolutions of support from 8 Navajo chapters and the endorsement of the Pueblo of Zuni, Pueblo of Ohkey Owingey, Pueblo of Laguna, Pueblo of Santa Clara, Ten Southern Pueblo Governor's Council, & the All Pueblo Council of Governors. Hillary won New Mexico with 51.5% of the popular vote during the June 7, 2016, primary election.

Through alumni engagement, former Young People For Fellows have the opportunity to stay connected with each other, which is integral to the longevity of the program and to building a diverse progressive movement. The ongoing commitment of YP4 alumni helps builds a strong sense of family between Fellows and former Fellows, YP4 staff, and our progressive partners.The YP4 alumni network, made up of nearly 1,500 progressive leaders, cultivates and supports the newest generation of progressive leaders by serving as mentors and trainers, by nominating and selecting our Fellowship class each year, and more. YP4 does not invest for a few months or even just a year; we invest for a lifetime.
