I advise insurers, brokers, banks, payments and digital commerce businesses and other financial services companies on cybersecurity and data privacy matters, emerging risks and new products, and a wide variety of regulatory matters, including licensing, reporting, compliance, enforcement and other related issues arising under state and federal laws.Prior to joining Eversheds Sutherland (US), I helped lead cybersecurity initiatives while working at the New York State Department of Financial Services (DFS), including the development and drafting of the Department’s recent cybersecurity regulations, investigations regarding cybersecurity and privacy breaches, and serving as the Department’s cybersecurity lead. I also regularly reviewed cybersecurity policies and programs, revised IT examination procedures, and developed and conducted cybersecurity training for DFS lawyers and examiners.I additionally led DFS’s virtual currency initiatives, including developing and drafting DFS’s virtual currency regulation and overseeing the chartering, licensing, examination and supervision of New York regulated virtual currency companies.

Leader of cybersecurity and virtual currency initiatives, including:• drafting, revising, and finalizing New York’s cybersecurity regulations for DFS regulated entities, researching cybersecurity programs, identifying related risks, and engaging with government and industry stakeholders on cybersecurity issues;• leading staff and third-party consultants to (a) revise IT examination procedures with an increased focus on information security, (b) develop and implement information security and regulatory requirement training for 800+ DFS examiners, and (c) build and deploy an information security risk assessment across DFS regulated entities; • engaging foreign regulators and regulated entities concerning information security incidents and initiatives;• leading a policy team working on the development, drafting, revising, and finalizing of the world’s first virtual currency specific regulation; and• establishing and supervising New York's virtual currency license application and supervision process, including through the review of virtual currency license applications and limited purpose trust company charter applications for compliance with BSA-AML, capital, risk management, cybersecurity, and BCDR requirements.
