I managed the incredible team that designed, built and launched restaurants.wordpress.com and the free Confit WordPress theme. Designed free Ideation & Intent WordPress theme. Coded HTML 5, CSS 3, PHP 5.3, jQuery and WordPress plugins and themes for Polldaddy support sites, various web apps, Polldaddy mobile apps and blogs. Objective-C/Cocoa coding and UI implementation for iOS on iPhone and iPad, initial version accomplished by a team of five in under two weeks. Implemented responsive and hi-res CSS updates across the Automattic web presences, Polldaddy in particular. I have spoken at and organized multiple regional WordCamps, including Denver and Boulder. I have worked at Happiness Bars helping users with WordPress problems at WordCamps, SXSW and more. I provide ongoing organizing and leadership of local WordPress meetups and Happiness Hours. I was the lead organizer and designer for WordCamp Denver 2012, and most likely both for 2013. I have written product announcement blog posts immediately broadcast to over 10 million email subscribers, garnering 600+ WordPress.com likes and 500+ retweets. I've designed UI and done hi-res graphics production for one of the most popular social sharing plugins available for WordPress in the world, as available in Jetpack. Made complete UI overhaul to Polldaddy WordPress plugin. I worked for two years on p2, Automattic's internal, WordPress-based project management system. I spent a final two years doing React.js on the main WordPress.com/Calypso core product. And so. Much. More.

Managed a small team but mostly worked by myself designing portions of web pages devoted to financials research within larger web properties, including brokerage firms, mutual funds and major media outlets. Clients included Merrill Lynch, BlackRock, Barclay's iShares, The New York Times, CNBC (minor pitch work), Bank of America.

Provided clients with front-end prototypes, created standards-based on HTML templates of those prototypes for developers to build from (a rarity at the time), as well as information architecture, design and development of Rich Internet Applications, Flash applications and web applications. Provided expertise and art direction on the design side and coded Flex MXML, OO Actionscript 2, XML and Flash on the engineering side. Took over sporadically as creative director as needs dictated.

Provided founding partners with brand/logo design, marketing web-site design, CMS application design & development as well as print collateral design. Brainstormed with CEO to deliver Flash-based demo animations of what the future functionality of the products could be, and produced visualizations of long-term goals of company. I started at Ping before it had a name and when there were only 2 employees and a board of directors. I oversaw their brand and marketing site iterations through their first 2 years of explosive growth. Developed diagrams and visual depictions of the process during which Ping's products were to be used. I developed the interaction design and usage patterns prevalent in their early-stage UI layers of many beta applications.

During my until-recently widely varying track-record with working full-time for an agency, I kept my freelance business running quite well with my own set and stable of clients, many of whom are listed here separately, as I tended to have long-running engagement contracts in favor of short-term turnaround. I believe this stems from my focus on providing cost-effectiveness to clients by way of being able to do top-notch visual design work as well as providing the HTML/PHP/Flash/SQL to support it. Survival of the fittest.

Short-lived job. Wouldn't work for them again.

After redesigning ServiceObjects' own website, I was asked to pitch work on one of their main client possibilities, Moss Motors. I flew to Santa Barbara and turned around many eye-catching designs that locked in the deal for SO. I worked on many Service Objects clients after this, including their beta product launch, Discount.com, the branding and look and feel (and much HML code) of which was done by me.

Attempted to move this ultra-hip music collective's website into the next century, with a hip design and a fully-featured (for 2001) content management system. Never really got paid very much but they were a fun bunch to work for and I'm glad Beatport's worked out so well for them.

After working on Statera's own website, I was asked to be the design member of what would expand to be a 12+ person team working on Executive Wealth Management, a highly-technical hedge-fund-based way for top-tier executives at Deutsche Bank to defer bonus payment into a system, thereby avoiding taxation and creating more wealth with the ability to invest these bonus dollars (euros) into high-yielding hedge funds. My first foray into financial user interface design, where I cut my teeth on hard core UI design and learned how to marry it with a brand system to create a fully-functioning application that stands in place to please a very high-net-worth clientele. My first stint at Spiremedia - the place I consider my first real job with a salary and actual benefits I didn't have to jump through hoops to get - was great. I did front-end page design, a little bit of HTML code, some Flash and a bit of logo design. Lots of great people to work with, massages to look forward to every week, awesome clients, good pay - and a pinball machine. Lots of nostalgia for the summer of 2000, and with good reason. Many of my jobs after this (even my most recent job) have come about because of the great people I worked with here and I am still friends with. Most if not all of Denver/Boulder agencies are being run by people who started out working in this team, at this time.

Intern position. Learned web design tools for their clients. First interaction with ColdFusion and database-driven websites. Didn't last long, but it didn't have to.
