Represent immigrants in removal proceedings and complex affirmative applications, organize and lead short-term pro bono clinics, conduct and lead community outreach activities, and mentor pro bono attorneys from private law firms. Supervise two paralegals and legal interns. Conduct “know your rights presentations” at community-based organizations in person and remotely, and conduct CLE immigration trainings.

Provided direct legal representation to low-income individuals or crime survivors in removal proceedings in defensive and affirmative applications, including practice in family court for custody and guardianship proceedings and other government offices such as USCIS, DHS, and ICE. Relief includes asylum, SIJS, U-Visa, VAWA, Battered Spouse waivers, non-LPR cancellation, naturalization, T-Visa, adjustment, motions to reopen and appeals to the BIA. Manage and coordinated pro bono project for my entire unit. Supervised several pro bono attorneys. Worked in an interdisciplinary team with social workers focusing on high needs clients using a trauma informed approach. Advise, train, and assist team members and citywide practice on issues pertaining to VAWA and U-Visa. Conducted and participate in diversity, equity, and inclusion training, conversations, and events and participate in hiring committees and citywide training onvarious immigration related topics. Conducted community presentations as needed.

Represent noncitizens in diverse legal matters, including removal hearings, applications for U & T Nonimmigrant status, Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) Self-Petitions, humanitarian waivers of conditional residence, Special Immigrant Juvenile Status, Asylum, and consular processing. Conduct legal intakes in Spanish and English to determine client eligibility for immigration relief. Draft appeals to the AAO, and motions to reopen to USCIS. Supervise pro bono volunteer attorneys and Brooklyn Law Immigrant Visa Assistance Project student volunteers. Assist clients with casemanagement needs. Draft grant requests for internal and external funders for clients’ emergency needs. Manage grant valued at $500,000 by ensuring grant outcomes are met and proper recording of data.
