In charge of weather and market fundamental analysis used for the creation and execution of various trading strategies. Focused primarily on North American energy markets.

Tasked with the initial build out of the weather desk supporting NA power, gas and oil trading desks-In addition to daily weather related responsibilities (similar to prior position), in mid-2012 I also assumed the role of natural gas fundamentals analyst-Tracked supply/demand fundamentals, produced weekly storage forecasts, built and maintained a seasonal storage carryout model

Following the completion of a two year rotational program, I rejoined JPMorgan’s North American Power and Gas weather desk. Responsibilities included:-Producing short (0-5 day) and medium (6-15 day) range forecasts daily as well as monthly and seasonal (winter/summer/tropical) outlooks-Working directly with various trading desks (West/East/NYMEX Natural Gas, ERCOT, CAISO, PJM) to improve the understanding of impacts of weather on their markets-Monitoring and communicating intraday changes in forecast models and real time weather conditions-Conducting proprietary research and comparing vendor products regarding new techniques in weather prediction relating to energy markets (teleconnections, hydrology, wind, etc...)-Analyzing weather and power/gas data and building statistical models-Assisting in the structuring of complex deals often involving weather contingent components

July 10 – Dec 10: Finance and Business ManagementThe majority of my time in this rotation revolved around assisting with JPMorgan’s acquisition of a large set of key North American Power and Gas assets. Also responsible for calculating and reporting internal risk metrics on various power assets, monitoring aggregate exchange positions by legal entity to ensure compliance with limits and assisting in the on boarding of new brokers.Jan 10 – June 10: Gas FundamentalsProduced a weekly LNG report as well as a new weekly report comparing various views on gas supply and demand balance. Worked with traders to build a regional gas demand model and storage model to assist in translating weather to actual impacts on gas usage. All the while, continued to support a variety of previous responsibilities to the weather desk as needed.Jan 09 – Dec 09: Weather DeskPrimary duties included producing short, medium and long range (i.e. next hour, day, week, month, seasonal) temperature, precipitation and tropical forecasts aimed at providing traders insight on power and gas supply/demand impacts from weather. During the day, I continuously monitored and communicated changes in intraday weather conditions as well as new weather model/forecast information. Also assisted in the structuring of complex weather derivative products. In any free time, I conducted proprietary research into advanced weather topics aimed at improving the efficiency and value of weather forecasts and developing new techniques and models.Aug 09 – Oct 09: JPMorgan Markets TrainingCompleted JPMorgan’s ‘Global Markets Training Program’ for all incoming analysts/associates; conducted in New York City. The program requires approximately 60-80hrs/week, 8 weeks, of instructional classes, team projects and presentations, homework assignments and exams. Some of the topics covered included: financial math and statistics, equity valuation, credit analysis, etc.

Spent the summer in Houston with Bear Energy, the energy trading group of Bear Stearns, now apart of JPMorgan. The first 5 weeks I was on the weather desk assisting traders with weather analysis and impacts on energy (power/gas) markets. The second five weeks I spent in energy operations.
