Professor, researcher, consultant and science communicator on the radio. PhD in Biochemistry and passionate about Artificial Intelligence, for more than twenty years I have combined my academic profile with my professional career in several SW and Consulting companies. Now I combine research and university teaching with scientific dissemination. I have held management positions in Indra and Telefónica, leading national and European R&D teams, participating in more than 20 projects mainly in Artificial Intelligence (11 of them in European programmes). I have also been an external consultant at the European Commission for the 5th and 6th Research Framework Programmes. In my academic career, I have been linked to the University since 1994 at UCM, UC3M and at the Francisco de Vitoria University, where I am now Full Professor of Artificial Intelligence. As a researcher, I started doing mathematical modelling of biological systems, but now my areas of interest are bio-inspired computing (neurocomputing, evolutionary computing), the philosophy and ethics of AI and the application of AI. Since 2007 I have been directing the CEIEC, the Artificial Intelligence Research Institute at the UFV, created with European funding. My current work focuses on neural models and Deep Learning techniques and their applications in various fields, such as natural language processing, virtual image reconstruction and medical signal processing.
