This was a 12 week clinical internship in an outpatient setting. Evaluations and treatments were performed using a Maitland-based approach with a combination of manual and exercise-based interventions. By the end of the affiliation I was able to independently evaluate and treat an average of 12 patients a day.

This is a 10 week clinical internship in an inpatient rehabilitation setting where many of the patients are primarily hospitalized for neurologic disorders such as stroke, traumatic brain injuries, and spinal cord injuries. Rehabilitation focused on identifying impairments and addressing them with individualized interventions that contributed to achieving functional goals such as ambulation and transferring from different surfaces. Maximal optimization of function for community re-entry by discharge is the goal. Treatment strategies were not rigid and adapted to fluctuating impairment levels typical in this population.

This was a 9 week clinical internship in an outpatient setting. The patient population treated were typically individuals with musculoskeletal pathologies or required orthopedic post-operative care. Individuals with stroke, BPPV, multiple sclerosis, and COPD were also treated in this setting. Care was taken during evaluations and throughout the course of treatment to rule out potential red flags. Plan of care included safe interventions that addressed identified impairments. Treatments included exercise-based interventions that were progressed according to the progress of the patient as well as manual interventions that included joint mobilizations, PNF stretches, soft tissue release, IASTM, and mobilization with movement.

This was an 8 week clinical internship in an acute bedside physical therapy setting. The majority of my time was spent between the general medicine unit and the orthopedic post-operative unit. I have also had exposure to the ICU and cardiac rehab. Assessments of function were made during evaluations that contributed to the treatment and discharge disposition of patients. Clinical decisions included safe mobilization of patients that incorporated ambulation activities and transfer activities, optimizing discharge placements based on the function and wants and needs of the patient, and ensuring appropriate follow-up services were provided. Inservice presentation focused on neurologic deficits and cerebellar degeneration due to chronic alcoholism.
