I work on Xenium Explorer, visualization software that allows scientists to visualize and understand in situ sequencing data.Previously, I worked on Loupe Browser, visualization software for making sense of single-cell sequencing data. I also created internal tools that manage DNA sequencing and analysis data to enable biologists, chemists, and other scientists to rapidly develop products that in turn enable other scientists to explore the genome and make medical breakthroughs.

Created easy-to-use disaster preparedness and recovery software for communities of any size, from neighborhood to city, used in many communities all over the world.As the sole engineer/CTO, built almost everything from the ground up, and performed user testing and interviews in both pre- and post-disaster contexts.As co-founder/CEO, handled some accounting, bookkeeping, payroll, and other HR and internal concerns where needed.Won the Knight News Challenge and MIT IDEAS Global Challenge in 2012. Part of the inaugural Code for America accelerator, and the MassChallenge accelerator.

Led sales automation, and user-facing signup and subscription experience from both product and engineering perspectives. Also led a major re-architecting of Rails and JavaScript code to improve developer and feature velocity. Improved devops, automated testing, and server infrastructure.

Rebuilt and optimized news feed for performance and improved engagement. Was one of the primary developers behind advanced full-text search, name/paper mentions tracking, and advertising delivery. Helped implement public paper recommendation interface.

As an early employee, built and maintained anything and everything needed.Helped architect and scale a growing server infrastructure capturing millions of data points from mobile devices. Also worked on charts, crash reports, account management, subscriptions, database maintenance and sharding, internal APIs and services, server operations, front-end JavaScript, HTML and CSS, and even a bit on the iOS and Android SDKs. (Whew! You name it, I probably had a hand in it.)

Managed and maintained servers, and built subscription UI and other back-end systems.

Designed and experimented with new ways of sharing and experiencing the web privately with friends, via a web-based RSS aggregator called Thirsst. Built JumpTask, a geo-enabled task finder and its accompanying API.

Re-architected and re-implemented e-commerce and internal software (LIMS) platforms. Streamlined shipping and storage by developing barcode labeling tools, and built tools that allowed scientists and other users to generate electronic forms and legal agreements.

Created LIMS-as-a-platform: tools for researchers to expedite, organize, and improve their research. Designed and implemented lab shopping list and grant application interfaces, and wrote scripts and server code for browser acceptance testing, database maintenance, product indexing, search, and data import.

Developed search, subscription, and video editing workflow and project management tools for an online video-based academic journal in the life sciences.

Investigated photodynamic therapy as a treatment for prostate, pancreatic, and ovarian cancer in animal and cell culture models. Contributed to two peer-reviewed publications and NIH grant preparation.
