• Designed a system for migrating 700,000+ pieces of content between CMSs for a news site averaging 40 million views a month. I designed the system as a set of single-responsibility commands that could be composed into the full migration workflow. I led the team that built and executed this system, migrating all content and launching the new site on time with no issues.• Optimized critical SQL database query, reducing un-cached execution time from ~20 seconds to under one second.• Owned the deployment of a new WordPress version across a network of 100s of high-traffic sites. Tracked and fixed 20 separate bugs introduced by the update before deployment. The update launched on time with no critical issues.• Owned transition of client WordPress codebase powering 100s of sites from PHP version 7.4 to 8.0. Fixed dozens of bugs related to this update before launch, and educated client engineers on writing 8.0-compliant code.• Owned a long-term tech-debt project to clean up logs across 100s of sites by removing bugs, with the goal of increasing observability. Removed dozens of bugs, resulting in several million fewer errors logged per month. Collaborated with other engineers across teams to identify and resolve issues.• Provided technical leadership and mentoring both at Human Made and on client teams. My code reviews were often called out as especially in-depth and helpful.• Implemented performance improvements across a client network with 100s of sites, reducing >10 second queries by nearly 100%, and >1 second queries from almost 9 million/month to around 1 million/month. Much of this work was around caching and optimization of SQL queries.• Designed and built a system for asynchronous, idempotent processing and importing of content from XML feeds into WordPress, with significant test coverage.• Developed systems and instructional content for migrating a client site from the legacy WordPress editor to the React.js-based block editor.
